My experience with Murobond, Nippon and ICI at IPEX

Blimey! It has been almost a year ago since I tore down the cupboards above my study desk for the small room makeover—new curtains and a fresh layer of paint on the walls. The curtains are done. But the latter is still being stalled.

During the weekend before the previous one, I dropped by the annually-held International Property Exhibition (IPEX) at Sabah Trade Centre to scour for new paint catalogues and ask a question or two about the variety of paints. Only three (3) paint distributors had booths there: Nippon Paint, Murobond Paints and ICI Paints.

The people manning the booths gave me this look whenever I asked them this one question: What makes your paint better than your competitors? *Points to competitor at nearby booth*

The lady at Murobond Paints responded by trying to sell me their metallic range and the fact that the company is from Australia. Meanwhile, one of the attending staff at ICI Paints did a good job by giving me a thorough understanding of the differences—the unique patent systems and alternatives to a competitor’s range. On the other hand, the guys at Nippon Paints booth seemed like they were trying to avoid answering me when I tried to enquire about their Odour-less range.

Nonetheless, I’ve picked the colours from the Nippon Odour-less range—Quilter’s Tread which matches with my Muji bed sheets and Blue Breeze which complements the colours of my cupboards. Now all I need to do is to calculate how much paint I do need. Anyone can help or have tips to share? Just in case you didn’t know, Nippon’s Odour-less paints are not odourless but less odour hence the hyphen between Odour and Less. Brilliant name huh?

What do you think of the colours?

Isn’t it cheaper to match your sheets with your paint colour? :P

Well I know nothing about paint, can’t help much. Best contact KH teacher back in high school ;)

Andy Goh: Well, instead of having one colour for the four walls. I’m having an accent wall whereby it’ll be blue for contrast.

I remember that choosing the colour for the wall is one of the hardest things to do. I choosed Ivy colour for my doors actually.. Hehe. And then, I had to find the right colour for my leather sofas so that they would compliment my wall colour. My dad repainted the walls because he found out that he did not like the colour. Wasted money.
