Application icon designed by Mike Rohde
Ecto was probably one of the first applications I purchased using the money I earned from my first freelance design job early last year. No doubt one of the best Mac blogging applications, Adriaan Tijsseling has left all bloggers wanting more after announcing a long-awaited alpha release of Ecto 3.Be warned though. Ecto 3 is still currently at its early alpha stage which would explain the sudden application crashes you might be encountering and a possible host of other issues like the ones here. Despite the absence of Applescript, Automator actions, notifications, smart quotes, del.icio.us, growl and support for blogs using the Blogger Api (which would apply to blogs hosted on BlogSpot), the basic functions to blog are all there.Worth highlighting is the new rich text editor which uses Apple’s own Editable Webkit. The plugin architecture that Ecto 3 is adopting is fantastic. It will give allow programmers alike to release their own plugins to enhance the blogging experience through blogging. (A Google Adsense plugin for Ecto, anyone?)
Ecto 3 is a free upgrade. And is all yours to test and download over here. There’s a fair way to go before Ecto 3 is completed. But at least we all know what we are waiting for. Possibly the best blogging application on the Mac platform. In the mean, remember to check for application updates ever so often.

How geng is the program?
Geng. But only for people who use Macs. For people who use PCs, I would suggest using Windows Live Writer.
