A day at the ‘Andy Warhol’ GoMA exhibition

Exclusive to Brisbane, the Gallery of Modern Art together with a range of partners and sponsors bring together a major retrospective of all-things Warhol to Australia for the first time. Andy Warhol is one of the figureheads of Pop Art and is generally acknowledged as one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. Some of his work that some of you might be familiar with: Campbell’s Soup Can Print or Marilyn Monroe People Poster Print

Andy Warhol’s Silver Clouds — a room full of silver balloons is one of the art works currently at the Gallery of Modern Art. We spent a few moments staring in awe of the floating silver rectangular pillows. Very lovely!

Several photobooths at the Gallery were setup to allow visitors to get their pictures taken ala Andy Warhol’s style. The process was a quick one. Take a snapshot, pick the colours and email the photos to yourself. This was very popular among the crowd perhaps only because the photos served as a nice photographic souvenir which were free. People who do like their souvenirs slightly more expensive can head down to the ‘Warhol Supermarket’ which sells a variety of ‘Andy Warhol’ memorabilia like books, tee shirts, overpriced tea towels. PS. All souvenirs do come in an environmental-friendly magenta pink bag.

After the exhibition, we had an outdoor lunch at the River Cafe — along the banks of Brisbane river. The weather was great. Enjoyed ourselves tremendously. The exhibition is on from 8th December 2007 to 30th March 2008 with a wider range of talks, events set for 2008.
