What you need to love about the French

The Little Black Dress: Celebrating its 80th year anniversary last year, the iconic little black dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s has become an instant classic, a must-own in every female’s wardrobe. Popularized by Coco Chanel, a French fashion designer whose influence on haute couture was such that she became the most important figure in 20th-century fashion. It’s a timeless, versatile piece which prompted me to purchased one for my girlfriend last year. A little black dress by the Forever New clothing line.

French Cuisine: My friend, Sharon, a nutrition undergraduate happily informed me a few weeks back that she has been taking basic cooking lessons French style which prompted me the next item on the list, French cuisine. Quoting the first sentence from its Wikipedia entry, French Cuisine is considered to be one of the world’s most refined and elegant styles of cooking, and is renowned for both its classical and provincial styles.

Something that many Malaysians would be familiar with, are the French Croissants often served in hotel breakfast and the many French-influenced pastries at your local DeliFrance. The French also brought us the heavenly soufflé. Who can possibly resist one?

The French Hang—described by Tim Olsen, owner of Tim Olsen Gallery, a French hang is a display technique that allows comfortable entry into a potentially intimidating art market, because it gives you the freedom to display a number of smaller, and therefore less costly, pieces. Imagine an empty wall and fill it with art works/photographs of all sizes. Big ones and small ones. Think of it as a little mini gallery in your room which gives a wonderful touch an empty wall.

I know I skipped a few French favourites like the Escargot and Foie gras. Louis Vuitton is French as well. Is there anything else I might have left out?
