Singapore Souvenirs Biscuit Box

Despite finding some of the design pieces remain somewhat unresolved (see below), I felt that this one was quite promising as a commercially viable product. Though I would appreciate more biscuits to fit in the current packaging. Where I come from, some sellers sell these biscuits in plastic bags filled with air. It could be another alternative approach to take in terms of the packaging. I love the gem biscuits (bottom left of the box). You?

Description of the exhibit held at the City Hall in conjunction of the Singapore Design Festival I attended last week in Singapore:

Triggered by a severe lack of meaningful and representative local souvenirs, the self initiated project by several local designers tends to explore, design and produce objects that can be meaningful Singapore souvenirs.

The map-on-a-serviette idea is not a new one but I can see this being implemented at local cafes. Will need to further reduce the amount of detail on the current design. Current one looks cluttered.

It would be nice to have your own Singapore personalized chop. Then again, it would be nicer to get one of these for every country you’ve visited.

singaporesouvenirstissue.jpg

I have heard that locals place a packet of tissue on chairs at food centres as a mark of territory before they order their food. It would be nice if the tissue packets had these words imprinted: “This is ___________’s seat. Go find your own.” Any other suggestions you can think of?

Ah… the banned chewing gum. Now in the form of a fridge magnet.

Nice to look at. But who on earth is going to assemble the mini paper building? Not me.

I believe this is the Common Mynah bird. Something I would prepare to buy as a souvenir. Would be nice if it comes with a pre-recorded message.

This one takes inspiration from the Singaporean culture of using a sheet of newspaper as a tray when eating. Nice concept but can’t imagine how this can translate to something a tourist might buy.

I actually assumed these were made of hard material. So I touched them (eventhough I really shouldn’t have). It isn’t.

An ‘upgrade’ of the traditional fruit bowl used at fruit stalls.

A journal with a parking ticket-inspired design.

I would buy this. Because it is brilliant. I just need to fill in the blanks. I’m that lazy.

These are just a selection of the ones at the exhibition. In my opinion la, the exhibit would benefit if the items were displayed as if they were retrieved from the luggage of a tourist. I like to see a postcard written to a person, a journal of receipts collected during the day, a half bitten biscuit, a fruit bowl with fruits et cetera. Which is your favourite piece?

I like the biscuit and the last card best, the others don’t seem to be that interesting to me :P

The personalized chop is everywhere at tourist spots in Japan.I like that idea,I’ve seen tourists so excitedly stamped their souvenir pads.

Is it? That’s very interesting indeed.
